What batting from Saha! He alone has ensured Punjab get to a huge, huge total. They started slowly, losing Sehwag and Bailey early but Vohra and Saha played through the tough period to set up the platform. They once set, took the attack to the Kolkata bowlers who lost their lengths in the end. Saha went on to score his maiden T20 hundred as Punjab did not even need the services of Maxwell and Miller.

This is a huge total for a final and Kolkata have their task cut out. This is a small ground though, and Kolkata raise the bar even more.

Awesome scenes out there at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium! Fireworks, players running in celebration and smiles all around in the Kolkata camp. Tremendous atmosphere. But spare a thought for Punjab, they played brilliantly throughout the tournament and will be heart-broken on missing out today. Priety Zinta is in tears and a few sad faces around her. Well played Punjab, you were brilliant!

This was a superb finale! First Wriddhiman Saha set the stage on fire with an awesome hundred to power Punjab to a big total and then the local boy, Manish Pandey, made a brilliant 50-ball 94 to script this magnificent win for Kolkata. Punjab fought hard in the field but their experienced bowlers failed to deliver when it mattered the most. However, Akshar Patel once again was excellent and impressed one and all with his tidy bowling.

Man of the Match, Manish Pandey: We have got four achievements, Ranji trophy, Irani trophy and this win was just the cherry on the cake. I love to perform in the crunch game. I tried to be till the end but I think the batsmen did well to finish the game.

Akshar Patel (Emerging Player award): It’s a proud moment for me and will help me further in career. I talk to my coach a lot and try to stick to basics. I think of myself as a batting all-rounder.

George Bailey: That was certainly a game worthy of being called a finale. I said to boys to be aggressive on the field and full congratulations to Kolkata for the way they batted. Manish played a gutsy knock, kept hitting boundaries after every wicket. We have a very very special bunch of players and they can hold their heads high. I really enjoyed playing with them and it was a lovely tournament for us.

Gautam Gambhir: Lot of credit goes to the entire team. It’s been an unbelievable contribution from everyone. This is such a ground where defending is tough. Manish played a wonderful knock and the guys batted well. Wriddhiman played an unbelievable innings and Pandey was fearless.

That brings an end to this season’s Indian T20 League.
